BambooHR has published a new study on the state of Return To Office (RTO) sentiment, revealing that nearly one-third (32%) of managers acknowledge that the primary aim of RTO policies was to monitor employees. Additionally, one-quarter (25%) of VP and C-suite executives and 18% of HR professionals admit they anticipated some voluntary turnover with RTO implementation. Currently, a significant majority of both remote (88%) and in-office (79%) employees feel the pressure to demonstrate that they are online and working.

“The conversation around work modes is one of the most important things to address and get clear on as a business. It often gets reduced to just RTO, but it’s actually a much bigger conversation around how teams best work together and is a leader-led initiative,” said Anita Grantham, Head of HR at BambooHR. “RTO is one of many different work modes, and if a change in work modes is needed, it’s important to handle the transition thoughtfully. Any hasty change to an employee’s work mode can leave your company culture in a precarious situation where employees are not unified, management teams are seen as overlords, and employee satisfaction will continue to nose dive.”

Performative Cultures and The Green Status Effect
Hybrid work and RTO mandates have unexpected consequences that have office culture shifting to performative tactics where just under half (42%) of all employees feel they’re showing up solely for the purpose of being seen by their bosses and managers. Employees are adopting various strategies to put on a show, whether working remotely or on-site. Here’s how they ensure their efforts are visible:

  • In-office
    • 37% walk around the office so coworkers see them.
    • 35% plan meetings with other coworkers who are also in the office.
    • 33% show up earlier or leave later than their manager.
  • Remote
    • 39% participate in social conversations in work messaging apps.
    • 31% schedule-send emails.
    • 64% of remote workers admit to keeping work messaging apps perpetually open, displaying a green “active” status to imply they’re online and actively engaged in work, even when they may not be actively working.
      • While all workers are taking steps to demonstrate productivity, it’s among remote employees that the “Green Status Effect” has emerged.

Management’s Not-So-Noble Efforts
Many leaders are using RTO as a tactic to increase productivity in employees or even prod employees to quit, leaving HR teams (22%) without clear metrics to measure a successful RTO. It’s clear these efforts are not producing the desired results.

  • Efforts:
    • Nearly two in five (37%) managers, directors, and executives believe their organization enacted layoffs in the last year because fewer employees quit than they expected during their RTO.
    • Nearly a third (32%) of managers admit the desire to track employee work was a main goal for their company’s RTO.
    • Nearly half of managers say that the main goal of their company’s RTO was improving company culture (46%).
  • Results:
    • Workers (both in-office and remote) only work for around three-quarters (76%) of a 9-to-5 shift; the other quarter is spent socializing, procrastinating, or doing non-work-related tasks. Put simply, all workers typically spend 2 hours out of every 8-hour shift not working.
    • When it comes to who’s more productive overall, in-office workers spend around one hour more socializing than their remote counterparts, while remote workers spend that time on work-related tasks and responsibilities.
    • Since having an RTO mandate, more than a fourth (26%) say a greater divide has developed between remote and non-remote workers.

“The distrusting and performative cultures some companies are cultivating are harmful to bottom-line growth and it’s becoming more clear that leaders should take each employee’s experience into account,” Grantham said. “It’s okay to have broad RTO policies but when 61% of parents and caretakers who prefer remote work say it’s because it allows them to fulfill their family responsibilities (vs. 38% non-caretakers) and 63% of workers with disabilities prefer remote work (vs. 51% of non-disabled workers), individual exceptions make sense. We’re striving for a balance between the needs of the organization and the needs of the humans we work with.”

Ivanti has published the findings of its 2024 State of Cybersecurity Report. As the threat landscape becomes more complex and threat-actor tactics continue to evolve, cybersecurity professionals are in a constant struggle to stay ahead of the increasingly sophisticated methods employed by malicious actors. This situation has amplified the demand for innovative and adaptive security solutions.

Although the goals and challenges of IT and security professionals intersect, 72% report security data and IT data are siloed in their organization, which contributes to corporate misalignment and elevated security risk. Due to insufficient data, IT and security professionals report the following:

  • 63% report that siloed data slows down security response times.
  • 54% report that siloed data weakens their organization’s security posture.
  • 41% struggle to collaboratively manage cybersecurity.
  • Struggle to make informed security decisions regarding software employees use (including shadow IT) (47%), devices accessing the network and/or corporate resources (42%) and determining what vulnerabilities are exposing their systems (41%).

“While data silos can be a technology issue, resolving them and gaining a comprehensive understanding of an organization’s risk landscape requires leadership. However, CIOs and CISOs are at odds. They face a tug-of-war challenge between enabling employee productivity while ensuring data security, which can lead to an increase in cyberattacks. To foster a more secure workplace, collaboration is essential,” said Jeff Abbott, CEO, Ivanti. “When there is CIO and CISO alignment, it helps both parties build consensus on organizational risk tolerance while promoting cross-functional security and IT data collaboration. This eliminates costly ripple effects and increases data accessibility for investments in AI.”

Data silos are a universal problem for CISOs and CIOs — and a particularly thorny one given the speed of investments in AI, which will require data integration and accessibility. To ultimately strengthen an organization’s security posture and drive transformation, there needs to be CIO and CISO alignment and executive buy-in on security. According to Ivanti’s research, cybersecurity is widely viewed as a top priority, even at the board level. Fully 80% of those surveyed say their boards include someone with security expertise, and 86% report it’s a topic of discussion at the board level. This is promising to hear in light of the various cybersecurity concerns raised by the study.

For instance, when it comes to a practice called BYOD (bring your own device), IT and security teams use tools that were designed for just in-office usage and have no effective way to track and manage employees’ personal devices at work.

  • Just 63% can track BYOD alongside corporate-owned IT assets, yet 78% say employees use their personal devices at work even when it’s forbidden.
  • 81% of office workers admit they are using some type of personal device for work.
  • Of the 81%, half are logging in to networks and work-affiliated software on their personal devices. And 40% say their employers don’t know about their activities.

Another cause for concern – 54% of office workers were not aware that advanced AI could impersonate anyone’s voice. Ivanti’s research finds that 95% of IT and security professionals believe that security threats will be more dangerous due to AI. However, despite the elevated risk posed by AI, nearly one in three security and IT professionals have no documented strategy in place to address generative AI risks.

Taking these various concerns into account, the report emphasizes the critical need for alignment between the CIO and CISO in their approach to security mandates. This alignment can help organizations identify areas of friction and make operational improvements, eliminate data silos that hinder response times and conceal crucial insights, and gain a thorough understanding of the software supply chain. Ultimately, this collaborative effort fosters mutual accountability and enhances overall security posture.

Ivanti surveyed over 7,300 executive leaders, IT and cybersecurity professionals‌ and office workers in October 2023 to understand today’s most pressing cybersecurity threats as well as emerging trends, opportunities and business strategies.

A new version of Cirata Gerrit MultiSite® was released by Cirata. By delivering local replicas of Gerrit instance data across several global sites, Cirata Gerrit MultiSite helps development teams working in multiple locations become more productive. It does this by lowering latency and guaranteeing that teams can access reliable data no matter where they are.

“Today’s software development teams are distributed globally, however, the Gerrit instance data they need to access isn’t optimized for multi-location access or equipped with the necessary resilience. This creates latency bottlenecks that slow developer productivity and introduce unnecessary outage risks,” said Justin Holtzinger, Chief Revenue Officer, DevOps solutions, Cirata. “Cirata’s MultiSite technology, integrated with Gerrit, provides customers with the best-in-class code review tool that scales globally and is highly fault-tolerant. Cirata establishes a scalable multi-primary Gerrit environment which is ideal for companies with globally distributed teams. Cirata has successfully assisted enterprise organizations in scaling Gerrit to over 10 sites and 10,000 developers.”

Cirata Gerrit MultiSite, with support for Gerrit 3.7, now delivers newly enhanced capabilities that overcome the challenges with free and traditional disaster recovery solutions for Gerrit-based source code management environments. Offering greater granularity, scalability, and automation, Cirata Gerrit MultiSite reduces development downtime and interruptions while easily supporting global and growing teams with simplified scalability, communication, and collaboration. Key features include:

  • Enhanced Availability – Full multi-primary replication gives developers access to multiple instances of Gerrit repository data across multiple sites, ensuring high availability, minimizing downtime, and reducing latency due to server failures or maintenance.
  • Compliant Data Locality – By distributing workloads across multiple sites, the Cirata solution improves developer performance, while reducing latency with faster data access response times.
  • Disaster Recovery – Offering built-in disaster recovery capabilities, Cirata Gerrit MultiSite maintains synchronized copies of Gerrit repositories, reviews, and other Gerrit metadata across multiple sites. Developers can seamlessly switch to a replica at another site when needed without losing access to their codebase or work in progress.
  • Geographic Collaboration – Cirata Gerrit MultiSite, ensures that all distributed development team members can compliantly access the latest version of the code, regardless of their location for near real-time collaboration and project coordination.
  • Extensive Scalability – The Cirata solution scales Gerrit by adding additional “primary” instances that are all kept aligned with Cirata’s proprietary distributed computing algorithms. This enables enterprise agility to adapt to changing business demands without sacrificing performance or availability.
  • Compliance and Governance – Ideal for regulated industries or organizations with strict compliance requirements, Cirata Gerrit MultiSite ensures data integrity and compliance using synchronized replicas of Gerrit instance repositories across multiple sites while also adhering to geographical regulatory requirements for data redundancy and disaster recovery.

The latest version of Cirata Gerrit MultiSite is available now. For more information, please register for our live webinar, “Navigating Gerrit: Solutions for Seamless Software Development” on May 30, 2024 here.

The secret to having a stellar workday has been revealed – and it involves a “neat” way to boost your mood. A new survey conducted by Mind Reader, a leading brand in home and office organization, has unveiled the key to a successful workday: maintaining an organized workspace. In anticipation of Get Organized Day on April 26, the survey highlights the significant impact of an organized workspace on employee satisfaction and productivity. Polling 2,000 U.S. office workers, the study reveals that 86 percent acknowledge the influence of their workspace on their happiness, whether at home or in the office. Additionally, nearly 80 percent take pride in their workspace set-up, often spending up to two years to achieve the ideal setup. Implementing a few simple and creative changes to the workspace can contribute to a better workday, as 84 percent report feeling more productive when their workspace is organized. Moreover, they believe that with enhanced organization, their productivity could increase by as much as 38 percent.

“Mind Reader is committed to crafting the ideal workspace for our consumers – a space that’s not only comfortable and organized but also enhances productivity and overall well-being,” said Glenn Goldberg, Head of Marketing at Mind Reader. “Our latest survey findings are exciting and insightful; they underscore the impact of simple, intuitive workspace solutions on our consumers’ ability to flourish and maintain wellness, even during their busiest days.”

From workday happiness to work-from-home vs in-office workspaces to dream celebrity co-workers – Mind Reader uncovered some of the most surprising details about how modern Americans are working today. Check out the full Mind Reader survey results below and what they reveal about workspace organization across the U.S.

Location, Location, Location

  • Nearly half of respondents said they work remotely in some capacity of their job.
  • If they’re working from home, 59 percent said they still prefer to work from a desk, while 18 percent change spots throughout the day, 17 percent work from their dining room and 16 percent typically work in bed.
  • For those who work in person or in an office setting, they believe the best parts include:
    • Engaging with coworkers (37 percent)
    • Feeling more productive (29 percent)
    • Feeling more organized (29 percent)

Hybrid Habits

  • More than a quarter said they work in a hybrid environment, splitting their time between their home and an office. Comparing the two locations, 40 percent said their in-office workspace is more organized, while 29 percent said their home workspace is more organized.
  • However, hybrid workers spend more time customizing their at-home workspace than their office workspace – 35 percent, compared to 27 percent.
  • As for remote workers, 50 percent said the best parts of working from home are not having to commute, 48 percent said dressing how they want and 36 percent said feeling more productive.

Workspace Struggles

  • While people strive for an organized work environment, the study found that only 40 percent are ‘very satisfied’ with their current workspace.
  • For those looking for a more organized space, the common issues for unsatisfied respondents, include 48 percent feeling like they have insufficient space, 34 percent feeling back pain due to inadequate chairs, and 32 percent unhappy with the messiness.

Ivanti introduced Ivanti Neurons for External Attack Surface Management (EASM), aimed at addressing the expansion of attack surfaces by providing full visibility of external-facing assets and actionable intelligence into vulnerabilities.

With the evolution of Everywhere Work comes an increasingly complex threat landscape and the progression of threat-actor tactics. Security teams are struggling to attain visibility of external-facing assets and exposures across their attack surface. Ivanti Neurons for EASM provides a comprehensive, continuous view of internet-facing assets and exposures. Armed with this intelligence, customers can minimize high-risk exposures to proactively protect against cyberattacks.

“EASM is a critical component to a full-spectrum cyber asset attack surface management (CAASM) solution. It drives cyber resilience by discovering all digital assets and prioritizing associated exposures for remediation,” said Dr. Srinivas Mukkamala, Chief Product Officer, Ivanti. “We are dedicated to providing our customers with technologies that enable a seamless, secure workplace which is why we offer comprehensive solutions within a singular portfolio.”

In addition to EASM, new capabilities for Ivanti Neurons solutions include the following:

Introducing Ivanti Neurons iPaaS

  • Using a low-code/no-code platform, Ivanti Neurons iPaaS, in OEM partnership with Workato, extends the capabilities Ivanti Neurons by seamlessly integrating an enterprise-grade iPaaS platform for use across IT, Enterprise and Security.
  • With a range of pre-designed connectors and integration templates for various application scenarios, users can quickly integrate external applications across Ivanti’s Service and Asset management solutions, and provide IT teams the ability to expand the scope of automation without help from developers. Using a user-friendly drag-and-drop graphical editor, customers can automate functions, minimize administrative effort and maximize productivity.
  • As a result, the solution helps reduce the total cost of ownership by reducing manual labor, decreasing administrative overhead and providing more accurate data. This gives customers the ability to configure application integration based on preferences.

Integration of AI capabilities into Ivanti Neurons for ITSM

To enhance the user experience and improve the productivity of ITSM analysts and administrators, Ivanti Neurons for ITSM will now offer the following Generative AI features:

  • Ticket Summarization: Service Desk analysts can now view a description of the employee interaction in the Self-Service UI before submitting an incident. By knowing which resources the employee has already reviewed, this allows them to provide tailored support.
  • Incident Summarization: ITSM analysts are now able to see an easy-to-understand summary of an incident (including journal data) to get a faster understanding of the incident during handoff.
  • Knowledge Article Creation: Using GenAI and incident data, ITSM analysts can now quickly create a knowledge article. This helps create a more accurate and up-to-date knowledge base.
  • AI Configuration Hub: Provides a one-stop-shop to activate and configure
  • AI capabilities in Ivanti Neurons for ITSM.

Improved Dashboards and Reporting

  • Dashboard Designer for easy creation of KPI-relevant dashboards.
  • GenAI-powered survey summarization for improved analysis.

With this release, Ivanti continues to deliver on its mission to empower IT and Security teams with a 360-degree view of their entire IT estate – providing visibility, actionable insights and security.

Ivanti has released insights from its 2024 Everywhere Work report, revealing that the concept of Everywhere Work has evolved to include the where, when, and how professionals get their work done. Flexibility has emerged as a crucial priority in the modern workplace.

“Employers seeking to hire top talent should prioritize workplace flexibility, as it has a clear business advantage,” said Jeff Abbott, Ivanti CEO. “To effectively implement flexible work arrangements, it’s essential to provide employees with the necessary resources, support and secure infrastructure to ensure their success. Neglecting these factors may lead to higher turnover rates and dissatisfaction among valuable employees you are trying to keep engaged.”

Key findings from the report include the following:

  • Flexible work options rank higher than remote work: According to the research, the vast majority of professionals (80%) say flexible work is highly valuable compared to the ability to work anywhere (70%). Yet just 25% of professionals say their jobs afford them high flexibility, and at least 40% would change jobs to gain flexibility.
  • Women prioritize flexibility more than their male counterparts: 36% of women consider flexible work essential compared to 22% of men. Additionally, 28% of women view being able to work anywhere as essential, compared to 18% of men. Organizations that take a more rigid approach may be undermining a critical segment of their workforce.
  • Leaders are out of touch with IT and Security needs: Although over 90% of leaders surveyed say employees have the tools to be productive in a remote or hybrid work environment, that’s not the case for IT and Security teams. Just 46% say it’s easy to access tech tools when working remotely. This disconnect has weighty implications for employers — nearly one in four IT professionals (23%) say a colleague has resigned due to burnout.
  • AI utilization rates are lower than anticipated: The overwhelming majority (76%) say AI and automation can help decrease ticket volume and provide better service. However, Ivanti’s research shows adoption rates for AI and automation solutions are low. How come? AI can’t deliver useful insights based on inaccurate data, and long-standing data silos prevent organizations from deploying AI and automation at scale.

If leaders want to empower employees to work flexibly, deploy AI and automation at scale and address IT and Security needs, then CIOs and CISOs need to align priorities. Ivanti’s research shows that 52% of IT and security professionals say security data and IT data are siloed inside their organizations. Of those, 84% say silos have a negative impact on security, and 82% say silos drive down productivity. This has a domino effect on how employees work both productively and securely … anytime and anywhere.

To address this, the report outlines how companies can align the priorities and interests of IT and Security, consider “flexibility” in Everywhere Work strategies and gain a comprehensive view of their IT estate.
