To help organizations increase the efficiency of their global supply chains, Oracle today announced new logistics capabilities within Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain & Manufacturing (SCM). The updates to Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) and Oracle Global Trade Management (GTM), a part of Oracle Cloud SCM, help customers reduce costs, make better planning decisions, and improve customer experience.

“Last year tested supply chains to a breaking point and exposed the limitations of older, on-premises systems that don’t provide the flexibility organizations need to run an efficient logistics operations,” said Chris Cunnane, research director, supply chain management, ARC Advisory Group. “Oracle Cloud SCM’s latest update adds new artificial intelligence, machine learning, and integrated IoT features to improve real-time monitoring of shipments and enhance the efficiency of trade and logistics processes.”

Oracle Cloud SCM helps organizations enhance supply chain operations, improve planning and execution across the entire business, and deliver a better customer experience. The new capabilities within Oracle Transportation Management and Oracle Global Trade Management include:

  • Oracle Logistics Machine Learning: Helps customers leverage machine learning in transportation processes to accurately predict transit times, reduce costs associated with unplanned delays, increase logistics efficiency, and enhance customer experience.
  • Rules of Origin Qualification: Helps customers comply with rules of origin criteria across hundreds of different trade agreements.
  • Connected Logistics: Helps customers better predict and manage shipments and inventory, while monitoring location and conditions (such as temperature and humidity), by connecting logistic flows between Oracle Transportation Management, Oracle Warehouse Management (WMS), and Oracle Internet of Things (IoT).
  • Ocean Enhancements: Help customers automate transactions with ocean carriers, from booking through financial settlement.
  • 3D Load Configuration Editor: Provides customers with full flexibility in managing container-based shipments and how they are loaded.
  • New Oracle Logistics Digital Assistant Capabilities: A new accelerated access experience and enhanced conversational interface helps Oracle Transportation Management and Oracle Global Trade Management customers easily access all shipment information and send requests while on-the-go.

“Using Oracle Transportation Management, we’ve been able to get almost immediate results on the rate changes that impact our shipping costs,” said Matt Kirchner, senior logistics analyst, White Cap (formerly HD Supply). “We utilize Oracle Transportation Management for export lane cost-by-carrier analysis, and when we’re comparing the different costs, we’re able to easily try different carrier combinations and compare the planned cost versus the lowest cost. We’ve found that on average, we’re able to reduce costs by approximately 6 percent.”

“As organizations reimagine their supply chains in the wake of 2020, creating robust and resilient logistics processes that keep the business moving efficiently should remain a key priority,” said Derek Gittoes, vice president of supply chain management product strategy, Oracle. “With the new capabilities within Oracle Transportation Management and Oracle Global Trade Management, we are helping organizations streamline logistics to fulfill orders faster, cheaper, and more sustainably to ultimately meet and exceed customer expectations.”

Atlassian Corporation released its second annual Sustainability Report for the fiscal year 2020 and announced ambitious goals to combat global climate change.

This report, which covers our progress from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020, details Atlassian’s progress and trajectory across four sustainability pillars: planet, customers, people, and community.

The report includes deeper disclosures and data across all pillars and includes Atlassian’s diversity, equity, and inclusion reporting, instead of having two separate documents. We believe any sincere sustainability efforts must acknowledge the interlocking impacts of climate change, structural racial and gender inequality, and widening social and economic gaps – and this reflects how our team works. We can’t treat these issues as siloed challenges; they influence and amplify one another.

As we state in the report, we have a long-standing commitment to being a company focused on the long term. This is why we’re as just as committed to sustainability as we are to our products. We think about it as embedding the goal of social and environmental progress in everything we do.

As part of our commitment to combat climate change, Atlassian set a goal to reach 100 percent renewable power across all our operations by 2025, which we achieved in the fiscal year 2020, five years ahead of schedule.

“We are setting ambitious climate goals because we believe in matching our words by stepping up and taking action, said Jessica Hyman, Atlassian’s head of sustainability. “It’s what our staff want. It’s what our customers expect. It’s what our politicians should be doing. And it’s what we must do for the future sustainability of our business.”

In September 2019, at UN Climate Week, we committed to set a target to reach net-zero emissions by no later than 2050. We aligned our goals with a 1.5°C trajectory as part of our commitment to the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign, reflecting the most ambitious objectives of the Paris Agreement.

Last week we announced that these goals have been approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative steering committee. It’s incredibly important to go through the process of figuring out exactly how much we need to reduce carbon emissions to meet our commitments.

“We congratulate Atlassian Corporation for setting emissions reduction targets consistent with limiting warming to 1.5°C, the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement, said Alexander Farsan, global lead for Science Based Targets at World Wide Fund for Nature. “By setting targets that are grounded in climate science, Atlassian is setting themselves up for success in the transition to a net-zero economy.”

We were one of the first Australian companies to sign the 1.5 campaign, making a massive commitment to transform our business. And with 5,000 Atlassians in multiple offices, countries, and continents, we will have to make big changes to our direct and indirect operations to reach this goal. We’re doing this because we believe in reinforcing our words with action and leaving the planet in a better state for future generations.

Our SBTi validation is an important step in our climate leadership and commitment to science. Here are the key ways we believe we can get there by 2050:

Scope 1-2 – Absolute Emissions Reduction of 50 percent by 2025: This will mostly be achieved through procurement of 100 percent renewable energy and is therefore directly aligned with our RE100 commitment. The other critical element is ensuring any of the buildings we own and operate run on electricity for heating and cooling (as opposed to natural gas or diesel).

Scope 3 – Reduce absolute emissions from business travel 25 percent by 2025: This will be achieved by reducing emissions from business travel, with a big focus on air travel. We’ll need to consider how to shift travel policy and team behavior, in the context of Team Anywhere, in order to achieve our goal. There is also an opportunity to work with airlines to advocate for more renewable aviation fuels.

Scope 3 – 65 percent of suppliers by emissions will have SBTs by fiscal year 2025: This will be achieved through supply chain management. We’ll need to engage with our top suppliers and encourage them to set science-based climate targets. We are in the middle of mapping out our priorities here with our internal teams, and we’re looking forward to the opportunity for innovation in this space.

One of our values at Atlassian is “Open Company, No Bullshit.” One thing we know for certain: we aren’t going to get this right the first time. But we are committed to being open and honest about our journey and sharing what we learn with the business community.

“Our hope is that more companies see this is possible, and take the leap, said Mike Cannon-Brookes, Atlassian co-founder and co-CEO. “The latest climate science says we need reductions to keep warming to 1.5 degrees to avoid the most damaging effects of climate change. Australia needs to do its part. Our future depends on it.”

Government market findings from the Netwrix 2020 Cyber Threats Report found that with the pandemic, the public sector has become extremely worried about cyberattacks. Nearly all respondents (98%) are now concerned about supply chain compromise, 95% named VPN exploitation as a top threat and 82% cited credential stuffing.

Another drastic shift is related to the misconfiguration of cloud services: 88% of government agencies now say that cloud misconfiguration is a top security threat, while pre-pandemic, only 25% said it was critical. However, only 11% of incidents reported during the first three months of the pandemic were actually caused by this scenario.

In reality, most incidents during this time period involved the human factor: 53% of respondents said they experienced at least one phishing attack, and 18% reported insecure sharing of sensitive data. What’s particularly troubling is that improper data sharing was especially hard for government agencies to spot: nearly all organizations needed days (42%), weeks (32%) or even months (21%) to detect it.

“Government agencies should focus their cybersecurity efforts on mitigating the insider threat, especially when many employees and contractors are accessing the networks remotely. Organizations must ensure that every user understands basic cybersecurity rules and completes security training on a regular schedule. IT teams should look for solutions to speed threat detection and streamline incident investigation. In addition, they should follow proven security best practices like network segmentation, privilege attestation, continuous auditing for malicious activity across data repositories, and alerting on suspicious activity and changes,” said Ilia Sotnikov, VP of Product Management at Netwrix

Other findings discovered by the survey include:

  • 29% of government agencies feel that they are at greater security risk now than they were before the pandemic. 86% of them are worried about stronger or more frequent cyberattacks, which is the highest percentage among all the verticals studied in the report.
  • Concern about VPN exploitation grew from 10% pre-pandemic to 95% now.
  • 26% of government agencies reported experiencing ransomware or other malware.
  • 6% experienced data theft by employees. None was able to spot it in minutes and only 5% were able to flag the incident in hours. The rest (95%) required days, weeks or months.
