Free Assessment Program Powered by Liquidware Stratusphere UX
Liquidware and IGEL announced a new partnership to deliver a free assessment program for enterprises looking to repurpose desktop computers with IGEL OS.

“This initiative from IGEL and Liquidware will help enterprises enhance work-from-anywhere solutions for their workers,” stated Mark Bowker, Senior Analyst at ESG. “Our recent Digital Workspace Trends research highlights the preference and accelerated adoption of hosted desktops. So, the ability to turn compatible x86-64 devices into IGEL OS-powered endpoints will help deliver cost savings, increased time to value and an optimal user experience.”

With the global chip shortage, many organizations are looking at cost-effective methods of utilizing current hardware. Stratusphere™ UX, which accomplishes the assessment, is even more useful in providing ongoing end-to-end user experience metrics that provide enterprises unparalleled endpoint-to-datacenter visibility.

The assessment helps organizations understand how they can maximize both user productivity and ROI by choosing IGEL OS for their x86-64 devices. Working with IGEL’s TCO calculator and the information provided in the FREE assessment, they will have all the data needed to make highly informed decisions about a PC/laptop/MacBook /thin client repurposing project.

The assessment process is simple with Stratusphere UX. As the assessment data is unique to each organization, it really speeds the progress of planning and IGEL OS deployment. The following are the key steps involved:

  1. A self-dissolving agent is installed and runs in the background on your proposed PCs for repurposing for about a week.
  2. Real-world usage data and hardware specs are securely sent to the Stratusphere UX reporting virtual server, which can be located in the cloud or at your location.
  3. Liquidware and IGEL teams meet with you to review the real-world findings to provide clarity to your project and help provide you with proof-of-value that IGEL is the clear endpoint OS choice.
  4. This insight determines which x86-64 devices can be repurposed into an IGEL OS-powered endpoint. By extending the life of existing hardware assets, organizations can eliminate the disruption and cost of investing in new endpoint hardware.

Stratusphere UX is primarily designed to provide ongoing user experience metrics including detailed information about endpoint devices such as those powered by IGEL OS. Joint customers can take advantage of the fact that a Stratusphere UX agent has been built into the IGEL OS firmware to easily monitor their environment.

“We already have many joint customers that have benefited from doing a quick assessment for IGEL OS and also benefit from the ongoing user experience monitoring of their IGEL OS endpoints,” commented Jason E. Smith, VP of Alliances and Product Marketing, Liquidware. “With this new offering of a free assessment to determine ideal x86-64 hardware candidates to be repurposed as an IGEL OS-powered endpoint, we enable organizations to save a large chunk of their IT budget.”

“Our partnership with Liquidware is all about improving the endpoint computing experience,” said Divya Saggar, Director, IGEL Ready. “By working closely with their team to develop the custom monitoring agent for IGEL OS, Stratusphere UX, as well as the new free assessment program for IGEL endpoints, we are able to gather key experience metrics that then enable us to improve end-user satisfaction, while at the same time driving productivity and increasing security in today’s work-from-anywhere environments.”

IGEL and Liquidware will hold a customer-facing webinar on Thursday, November 18 at 10:00 am (PT) to discuss the full parameters of this joint initiative. Register for the webinar here. A joint solution brief detailing the free assessment program can be downloaded here.

Liquidware is a member of the IGEL Ready Showcase, an ecosystem of cutting-edge hardware, software and peripheral solutions that have been verified for use with IGEL OS to deliver a powerful, productive, and secure user experience. Ivanti, Inc., announced the results of a consumer sentiment study, which revealed that QR code usage continues to rise in popularity, with 57% of respondents claiming to have noticed an increase in QR code usage since mid-March 2020. As the need for touchless transactions increased due to COVID-19, 83% of respondents stated that they used a QR code to make a payment (or complete a financial transaction) for the first time ever. Of those respondents, over half (54%) used a QR code for a financial reason for the first time in the past three months alone.

This study is a follow up to a September 2020 report to understand how consumer attitudes and usage of QR codes has evolved over the last year. The research demonstrates that consumer QR code usage has changed from convenience in a touchless world to practicality and necessity in new realms of our lives. Early in the pandemic, restaurants were using QR codes as menus or payment options, but as the pandemic continued throughout 2020, consumers used QR codes more frequently for practical things like visiting a doctor’s office or picking up a prescription – with an increase from 9% in 2020 to 14% in 2021. Meanwhile, social activities like dining out or enjoying a drink at a bar saw QR code usage decrease in that six-month period from 44% to 36%. Even offices and places of work saw an increase in usage going from 11% to 14% emphasizing the shift in how QR codes have been used during the pandemic. Consumers also grew more comfortable with QR codes that had a financial purpose. Sixty-five percent reported noticing an increase in places where QR codes can be used for payments, and 87% feel secure using a QR code to complete a financial transaction.

Many organizations have continued to allow their employees to work remotely due to the ongoing pandemic, increasing the importance of mobile devices for employees around the world. In the new “Everywhere Workplace,” distributed employees require access to corporate apps and data from any device, whenever and wherever they work. Despite the fact that 39% of consumers are relying on their phones more due to social distancing, only 51% of respondents claimed they have security software installed their mobile devices. Couple this with the lack of awareness of what a QR code can do once scanned, and the security threat increases significantly to both the user and their organization. In fact, 31% of respondents claimed that they had scanned a QR code that did something they were not expecting or were taken to a suspicious website.

See below for stats on how users could be putting themselves and their employers at risk by scanning QR codes:

  • 47% or respondents claimed to know that a QR code can open a URL.
  • However, only 37% were aware that a QR code can download an application and only 22% were aware that a QR code can give away physical location.
  • Two thirds of respondents felt confident that they could identify a malicious URL, but only 39% stated they could identify a malicious QR code.
  • 49% stated they either do not have or don’t know if they have security installed on their mobile device.

“As a result of the pandemic, employees are using their mobile devices more than ever before to access corporate data and services from any location,” Chris Goettl, senior director of product management at Ivanti. “As QR codes continue to increase in popularity and use, they will undoubtedly be leveraged more and more by cyberattackers to infiltrate devices and steal corporate data. This report underscores how critical it is that companies of all sizes prioritize mobile security for their employees, regardless if the device is company or employee owned. Organizations should implement Mobile Threat Defense (MTD) to defend mobile users against QRLjacking, phishing attacks, and to identify mobile OS or application vulnerabilities.”

Ivanti offers a Mobile Threat Defense (MTD) solution that protects and remediates against known and unknown threats that target Android and iOS devices, including malicious QR codes. MTD provides the ideal deployment, detection, and remediation solution to defend against attacks that occur at the device, network, and application level. And there is no end user action required to deploy MTD on mobile devices that are enrolled in the Ivanti UEM client. As a result, organizations can achieve 100% user adoption without impacting productivity. Mobile Threat Defense is a critical part of a larger zero trust security strategy to assess and ensure good device hygiene.

We’re excited for the results that Extreme has achieved with Tricentis, and we look forward to continuing to help them reach their goals of full-speed Agile transformation.”

Extreme acquired Aerohive in 2019, which had already implemented Tricentis qTest. The leadership team noted the increased efficiencies within the development team immediately, which led to the company adopting qTest enterprise-wide for all product teams.

Extreme has since committed to Agile principles to deliver innovation faster and more efficiently through the usage of products like Jira. However, the company faced various challenges to adoption as their legacy test case management tool was not capable of integrating into Jira. These issues created extensive manual work of 30 minutes-plus per report per day for both engineers and managers, as well as a testing bottleneck, causing delays in release times for both products and features.

Recognizing that Jira was not built for test management, Extreme implemented Tricentis qTest and its best-in-class Jira integration capabilities to assist in reducing workloads for engineers and developers. Through Tricentis qTest, their developers have increased visibility and traceability that allows them to see the results of test runs instantly. Through this improved efficiency in the feedback loop, their team has been able to greatly reduce release times from quarterly to monthly over the course of four to six months.

“As the world continues to shift to the cloud, we need to get as many platforms working in the cloud wireless environment as quickly as possible,” noted Kevin Lin, Director of Cloud & Wireless QA at Extreme Networks. “Tricentis qTest has been a critical tool for us to be able to achieve that from both a test perspective and organizational program perspective.”

ControlUp, announced  an expanded portfolio to deliver on the promise of the work from anywhere digital experience on VMware Horizon virtual desktop environments. New visibility into end user connectivity, provides the essential data system administrators need to improve user satisfaction and productivity wherever they work.

“Remote work isn’t the ‘new normal’; it’s now just normal. This change in workstyle has placed challenges in the path of IT, as they have to now manage not just several offices or branches, but innumerable remote work locations,” said Yoni Avital, COO and Co-Founder at ControlUp. “Previously, system administrators were unable to factor in local performance issues to diagnose system problems. Now, we are able to provide the data they had been missing to optimize the employee digital experience.” ControlUp has added the following capabilities to its VMware Horizon solutions portfolio:

  • ControlUp Remote DX – end-to-end visibility into the employee digital experience, regardless of their location, by monitoring local network performance, including Wi-Fi strength and speed, as well as user device ISP connectivity measurements.
  • ControlUp Scoutbees – continuous synthetic transaction testing that proactively alerts IT of issues related to the availability and performance of applications, desktops and network resources. The solution allows IT Operations teams to quickly identify the cause of any problems and address them before user productivity is impacted.
  • ControlUp SOLVE – the overall health of the end user computing (EUC) environment visualized, end-to-end, on a single dashboard in real time, including the ability to drill down to see detailed metrics for a particular aspect of the infrastructure, all the way down to the users’ session process level.

The ControlUp digital experience monitoring and optimization platform gives IT flexibility and control, making it possible for them to monitor Horizon virtual desktops and applications, and the Horizon infrastructure, whether on-premises or in the cloud. The solution delivers out-of-the-box automation and remediation workflows that reduce the time, effort, and cost involved in identifying, troubleshooting, and remediating VDI issues. ControlUp combines information retrieved from VMware Horizon’s API, providing deep visibility into the entire virtualization stack, including hosts, storage, network, and user sessions.

“Troubleshooting and fast remediation of VDI issues are challenging due to the multitude of components involved, from the data center, to the cloud, to the endpoint,” said Bharath Rangarajan, Vice President of Product Management for VMware’s End User Computing business. “VMware and ControlUp are collaborating to address these issues and deliver a great user experience consistently to VMware Horizon customers.”
